What is the SAJE Mental Health and Counselling Benefit?

The SAJE Mental Health and Counselling Benefit provides opportunity for young adults within government care to engage in services that support mental and emotional wellbeing. The benefit covers up to $1500 per calendar for access to mental health and counselling services.

Am I Eligible For This Benefit?

Only young adults on post-majority agreements (Agreements with Young Adults, Temporary Support Agreements, or Temporary Housing Agreements) can access this benefit. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

What Services Are Covered By This Benefit?

The counselling categories approved under this program include:

  • Regulated or registered mental health professionals (psychologists, social workers, or clinical counsellors).
  • Evidence-based/informed therapeutic services (art therapists, music therapists, or equine therapists).
  • Cultural healing services (time with elders, sweat lodges, or healing houses).

We are eligible to provide counselling to young adults accessing this plan. Art therapy can help with resiliency, healing from trauma and mental and emotional health and well-being.
